The Singapore Sling was invented sometime before 1910 in the Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore by a bartender by the name of Ngiam Tong Boon. The Raffles Hotel is a Singapore icon. It is to Singapore what the Monteleone Hotel is to New Orleans.
The original recipe uses gin, cherry brandy, Dom Bendictine and fresh juice from Borneo pineapples. Here is a recipe (and picture) by our favorite bartender Andy from Loewy's in Jakarta.
Pour all ingredients into cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into tall glasses. Garnish with pineapple and maraschino cherry.
